OpenScore for AI assistants and developers

OpenScore helps people find and compare UK care homes. AI assistants can use the same data as the OpenScore map through an MCP server or a REST API. Both are free, read-only and need no key.

The OpenScore is a score from 0 to 10 that combines publicly available and provider-supplied information to make care homes easier to compare. Higher is better. It is not a regulator rating. A missing score (null) means the home has no published OpenScore; it never means zero.

The questions to ask

OpenScore asks assistants to ask the care seeker these questions before searching and before shortlisting, conversationally and a few at a time, and never to guess an answer. "Not sure" is always a valid answer.

  1. who is asking (before searching): Are you looking for yourself, or for someone else?
  2. location (before searching): Where should we look for a home for the person? A postcode is best - it could be near their current home, or near the family who will visit most.
  3. admission timescale (before searching): How soon does the person need to move in?
  4. current situation (before searching): Where is the person living now, and what support do they have?
  5. care type (before searching): Does the person need help with personal care, nursing care from a registered nurse, or care for dementia? It's fine to say you're not sure.
  6. funding (before searching): Do you know how the care will be paid for?
  7. priorities (before searching): What's the most important part of the home you choose? And what's the least important? (Fees, the manager, location, activities, or the care offered.)
  8. social life (before shortlisting): How much does the person enjoy being around other people? Would they rather be in the middle of things, or have somewhere quiet to retreat to?
  9. interests and hobbies (before shortlisting): What does the person most enjoy doing? Any hobbies, interests or things that always lift their mood?
  10. other preferences (before shortlisting): Is there anything else that would make a home right for the person? For example a pet moving with them, faith or cultural needs, their first language, a garden, or being close to particular family.
